Activities & Events

Throughout the year, Bridge Builders for Kids relies on volunteers to host different types of events, whether they are events for children, families and mentors or for fundraising.  Below are some of the ways you can participate.
  • Event Planners - If you are someone who enjoys organizing and planning, organizing events and activities are excellent ways to provide opportunities to build relationships with children and families affected by incarceration.  It might be a fishing outing, a service project, a canoe outing, doing a sporting e vent, building a craft, going on a hike, going to a play - the possibilities are endless!!

Requirements:  Passion to organize, brainstorm new ideas and work in a team environment

  • Event Volunteers - BBFK hosts various events for children of prisoners and their families throughout the year.  These events are a fun and excellent way to reach out and build relationships with many children and families affected by incarceration.  They are also a great way to meet a child waiting for a mentor.  These relationship building activities are an excellent way to get your church involved in local outreach.  We've found ab out half the people that attend these types of activities end up being interested in mentoring a child.
  • Drivers - We have learned that in order to get a good response and attendance at our events and activities, we need to provide transportation for many of the kids and sometimes their families.  This is something you could do along with your spouse or another volunteer as we ask that a second person be with when transporting children.

Requirements:  Must be at least 18 years old; valid drivers license; good driving record; and personal use of vehicle

  • Activity Hosts - Our mentors are always looking for new and different things to do with the child they are mentoring and to expose them to things they would typically not have the opportunity to experience.  Inviting a mentor and their mentee to join you fishing, boating, sailing, woodworking, out to a farm, or doing an activity that the mentor may not have the ability to do can be a huge blessing to a child.  These are also great activities to invite the child's family to and provide excellent opportunities to reach out and build relationships with them.
